My “Big Kid”

Every so often I get an e-mail about each of the kids. The first couple lines of yesterday’s e-mail said this:

Welcome to the “big kid” years! Of course, your child still looks tiny compared to those 10-year-olds on the playground, but one glance at his baby photos will remind you just how far you’ve come together.

We have come a long way since those first days and weeks after Andy’s birth.  I honestly am not sure how we survived those first few weeks!  Those were pretty close to the hardest days of my life.  Here’s a photo from when we brought him home from the hospital.

And a photo from when he was around 3 months old.

A photo from when he was 2.

A photo from when he was 3.

And finally here’s a few photos of my big 5-year-old Andy from yesterday because (of course) I couldn’t pick just one! Our camp friend Emily got Andy a huge container of cheese balls for his birthday, just like the ones that we use to feed the fish and turtles in the pond at camp! He was very excited!

He’s my “big kid” alright! He loves to pretend and he loves to make up stories. He’s always singing songs changing the words of songs to make them his own! Dinosaurs and dragons are a few of his favorite things. He also loves learning about animals! He always wants to help with laundry and setting the table for meals.  He loves his siblings at least most of the time!  He is our little negotiator when he is told he can’t have something or do something his way.

He may be a “big kid” but he still loves his blanket. I crocheted it for him before he was born. This is how he sits with it and sucks his thumb.  Because he only sucks his thumb when he’s falling asleep, we decided to let him keep doing it for now.  He wasn’t too happy about me taking a photo of his feet, but I couldn’t resist.  I am sure he’ll love this photo when he’s a teenager!
